Nottingham: James Anderson on Saturday thanked Joe Root for his superb guidance and support during their record breaking 198-run last wicket partnership at Trent Bridge.
“Initially the plan was to bat a bit, and chip away the lead as well, but we didn’t expect what we achieved,” the fast bowler admitted.
“Joe took most of the strike yesterday and it worked well… we did the same in the beginning today and then we rotated the strike. We did pretty well. Joe talked me through every ball.
“It is a brilliant feeling, to bat like that and build such a partnership... I am glad to get the team back in the game,” said Anderson.
Root, who remained unbeaten on 154, was also over the moon. “It was a surreal moment for me. Our plan worked well and we continued in the same vein today.”
