Calcutta: Kingfisher East Bengal coach Armando Colaco emphasised that he would be fielding the juniors in the squad in this season’s CFL Premier Division.
“No matter what, I’ll ensure only juniors play in the CFL,” Colaco said after East Bengal’s first practice session, at the club ground, on Tuesday.
“Look, we need to encourage the junior players. You can’t just keep looking at the Ranty Martins and (Harmanjyot Singh) Khabras. People have to be patient… players, club officials and everyone.
“These juniors are the future of the club. So, you can’t just keep on having them confined to the reserve bench.”
Only drills and warm-up exercises formed the first day’s practice, and Colaco appeared quite pleased with what he saw. “Most of the players, barring some seniors who are ageing, seem to be in good shape. It seems most of them have worked during the off-season.”
