PHE men edge past Tarapur AC

Hailakandi, July 8: Public Health Engineering Recreational Club edged past Tarapur Athletic Club 1-0 in a match of the Ramanuj Gupta Trophy Silchar Super Division football league at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar today.

Kenny Rongmei netted the all-important goal in the 28th minute with his solo efforts.

The side was reduced to a 10-man side in the 16th minute after Renuga Rongmei was given marching orders by referee Hashmat Ali for a foul. Tarapur were also reduced to 10 men in the 81st minute when Ali flashed the red card at Lalrinmuga for another foul.

Karimganj soccer: United Club, Dhalibeel, won the under-16 football championship, organised by Ramkrishnanagar Sports Association of Karimganj district, defeating Ratabari RK Friends Club 6-5 via tiebreakers in the final at Ramkrishnanagar ground yesterday.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Abdul Muktadhir fashioned the lead for Friends Club in the 15th minute, but was equalised by Sahid Uddin of United Club in the 18th minute. Rashid Ahmed scored the second goal for United Club in the 52nd minute. Muktadhir equalised again in the 58th minute. In the tie-breaker, Muktadhir, Ajir Uddin and Abdul Kuddus netted their shots for Friends Club while teammates Rahamat Ali and Mashuk Ahmed failed to score. The winning teamís Hussain Ahmed, Sahid Uddin, Rashid Ahmed and Imtajur Rahman scored the goals while Ainul Haque failed to net in the penalty shootout.

United Club goalkeeper Azad Uddin was named Man of the Final for his brilliant saves in the tie-breaker.
