Crop insurance

The Jharkhand government has authorised HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Limited, a joint venture company of HDFC Limited and ERGO International AG, to implement weather-based crop insurance scheme for kharif farmers across seven districts. Crops include paddy, maize and other minor ones. Under the scheme, farmers of Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Latehar, Palamau, Garhwa and Chatra districts will be covered against losses due to aberrant weather conditions during the crop cycle. The claim amount will be settled on the basis of data taken from reference weather stations mentioned in the scheme and managed by independent third-party organisations

Patent policy

Research and Development Centre for Iron and Steel (RDCIS), SAIL’s nodal agency to file applications for obtaining patents and copyrights, has prepared an integrated patent policy. R.K. Rathi, executive director in-charge of RDCIS, released the policy in Ranchi on July 1. RDCIS received 364 patents while it applied for 678. It got 453 copyrights against 508 applications. It also earned over Rs 2 crore by transferring some patents to public/private agencies
