A country-made revolver and several bullets were seized from a locked briefcase after a meat seller in Beniapukur alleged that a buyer had left it at his shop on Sunday morning.
The police said a man in his mid-30s had come to the shop on Beniapukur Road, near Park Circus, around 11am and bought 1.5kg of meat.
“Babu, the meat seller, said the man told him that he was not carrying enough cash. The man asked him to keep his briefcase for a while and promised to return with money within a few minutes. Babu waited till 3pm but the man did not show up. He then alerted us. We opened the briefcase and found a country-made revolver and ammunition inside,” said an officer of Beniapukur police station.
The officer said the suitcase contained three 9mm bullets, two bullets for a double-barrel gun and few chharra (a type of bullet). Based on the meat seller’s description, the police are trying to get a sketch of the accused drawn.
Businessman Mohammad Aslam, 26, was shot at by two bikers outside his house in the Bashbagan area of Titagarh on Sunday. He is undergoing treatment at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
