Now, trek Dalma hills for a thrill pill

- Tata adventure outfit starts monsoon outing from today

Jamshedpur, July 5: Adventure lovers can now look forward to a surge of adrenaline with Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAD) adding more excitement to its rain activities.

The outfit is starting a daylong trek to the picturesque Dalma hills tomorrow with a batch of 17. The Dalma stint, aptly called Monsoon Thrill, will be held every Sunday through the entire rainy season.

“We have already started a monsoon outdoor leadership course. But keeping in mind the interest of Jamshedpur’s adventure junkies, we thought of coming up with something extra,” TSAF secretary P.P. Kapadia told The Telegraph.

According to Kapadia, the adventure outfit is charging a nominal fee of Rs 700 per head. The charge will cover lunch and transportation. “We are also providing experienced instructors to guide trekkers. From the Kali Temple, participants will follow a designated route along the NH-33 for the climb,” the TSAF secretary added.

The trek, sources clarified, will not be reserved only for participants of the ongoing monsoon programme conducted by TSAF at Tumung, a rocky address some 25km from the steel city, and the Dimna lake.

“It is open to all. Interested people can contact us at our office at JRD Tata Sports Complex to enrol their names,” said Kapadia, adding those interested could also contact TSAF manager Hemant Gupta (7763807469, 2545189, 2643389).

On the day of the trekking, participants will have to report at the TSAF office at 6am before they are transported by bus to the site from where climbing will begin. “We will serve lunch at an open space. Participants can also proceed to the Shiva Temple atop the Dalma hills to pay obeisance. The return journey will start late afternoon,” he added.

Though the programme is being organised in the rainy season to up the adventure quotient, the TSAF may hold such thrill camps in winter too depending on the response.

TSAF used to conduct trek to the Dalma hills till a few years ago but was forced to stop it owing to the outfit’s other commitments like outdoor leadership activities.
