Men arrive in SUV, one caught with pistol

Patna, July 5: Residents and police came together today to foil a possible criminal activity in the city.

Four men arrived in the Jakkanpur area in a sports utility vehicle (SUV). The residents alerted the police when they saw the men were carrying weapons. Chased by the residents, the men started to escape.

While the police refused to divulge details, sources said the men fired shots to terrorise the residents. Nobody was injured. One of the men was arrested when the group tried to escape on foot.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said: “Around 3pm, four men got out of an SUV in the area. They were carrying pistols and the residents alerted the police. As some residents chased after the men, they fled with their vehicle. They hit some other cars in the area before coming to a halt. They started run- ning, while shooting indiscriminately. One of them was caught.”

Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj reached the spot and the man caught by the residents was taken into custody. A pistol was recovered from him.

The police lodged an FIR and the man is being interrogated. Sources said the men had come to give shape to a criminal incident — a murder or kidnapping.
