Bangalore, July 3: A Congress MLA has been accused of forcing a Bangalore pub to stay open and play loud music beyond the permitted hours and abusing and threatening two police constables who asked his group to leave.
Police sources alleged that lawmaker Vijayanand Kashappanavar, 42, who was celebrating his birthday at Skyye Bar pub on Tuesday night, also slapped one of the cops. The FIR, however, is silent on this. Vijayanand has denied hitting anyone.
With the Opposition demanding the MLA’s arrest, chief minister P.C. Siddaramaiah has promised an Assembly statement tomorrow.
The Congress has suspended youth wing leader Someshwara Gowda, who was with the MLA, for six years.
The constable was filming the scene for evidence — a routine procedure — when he was abused and allegedly slapped. The police will approach the Assembly Speaker to begin proceedings, sources said.
