Chess camp begins in Silchar

Hailakandi, July 2: A weeklong International Master chess coaching camp got under way under the Cachar District Chess Association (CDCA) at the indoor stadium of India Club in Silchar from yesterday.

Leading coach of All India Chess Federation and International Master Atanu Lahiri of Calcutta is conducting the camp for young and talented chess players of Barak valley. Altogether 20 players are registered in the camp.

Lahiri, during his introduction ceremony, said a good chess player is always a good student. “There is huge scope and career opportunities if one chooses chess as a profession,” he said.

The general secretary of the association, Joydeep Nag, said they have got tremendous response from the players and guardians. He said this sort of coaching for chess was being held for the first time in Barak Valley and the association would try to establish a permanent centre for chess coaching in Silchar.

He added that Barak Valley has immense talent in chess.
