CPM at widow door

Karimpur, July 2: CPM MLA Anisur Rahman today led a delegation to the Nadia house of a party panchayat member killed by suspected Trinamul workers last week in a retributive attack minutes after a ruling party leader was shot dead.

The eight-member delegation of CPM MLAs met Abdul Haque Siddique Sheikh’s widow in Narayanpur and urged the family to lodge a police complaint.

Nadia police have started a suo motu case. But while three persons have been arrested in the murder of Trinamul leader Anisur Biswas, nobody has been picked up so far for the killing of Sheikh.

Sheikh’s widow Manwara Bewa said the family was “too scared” to lodge a police complaint, adding that such a move could prompt Trinamul workers to “attack us”.

The police said Sheikh’s family was “welcome to lodge a complaint”. Rahman submitted a memorandum to the Tehatta BDO.
