Ravikant bags trophy

Guwahati, June 29: Ravikant Tiwari annexed the title of the Rajat Chandra Sarma Smritishastri and Kamini Priya Devi Guwahati Chess Championship, organised by Guwahati Chess Association, on the Gauhati Town Club premises here yesterday.

The sixth seed Ravikant clinched the championship, winning all the seven rounds.

Chiraranjan Bhuyan finished second and Pranab Kumar Nath secured the third position.

Bipin Singh and Biswajit Bharadwaj secured the fourth and fifth positions respectively in the final rankings.

The top five players were rewarded with cash prizes and trophies. A running trophy in memory of Rajat Chandra Sarma Smritishastri and Kamini Priya Devi was also awarded to the champion.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by GCA secretary Arun Singh, along with other members of the association. Dipali Devi, the youngest daughter of Rajat Chandra Sarma Smritishastri and Kamini Priya Devi, representing the family members of the sponsor was the chief guest of the event. Altogether 41 players participated in the four-day annual event, from which the Guwahati team will be named for the forthcoming All-Assam Chess Championship.
