Siliguri, June 27: North Bengal development minister Gautam Deb said his department would spend Rs 2.5 crore on the modernisation of North Bengal State Transport Corporation’s bus depot in Alipurduar.
“Following the upgrade of Alipurduar into a district by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, we have decided to modernise the NBSTC’s bus depot in that town with proper facilities for passengers. A sum of Rs 2.5 crore will be spent on the modernisation,” Deb told journalists after a board meeting of the NBSTC here.
Deb, who is also the chairman of the NBSTC, said the depot would have an administrative building, ticket counters, rest rooms, toilet blocks and modern workshop for the maintenance of buses. “We are preparing a DPR (detailed project report) and the work will start as early as possible,” he added.
The minister said the NBSTC would introduce an AC Volvo bus service and non-AC bus services on the Alipurduar-Calcutta route. The services are likely to be introduced ahead of Puja, he added.
Deb also said the state transport department had sanctioned Rs 27 crore for NBSTC.
