‘Gang rape’ in Park St office

An 18-year-old domestic help on Saturday night alleged that three men gang-raped her for over two hours in the evening at an office in the Park Street area after she was lured with the promise of a cleaner’s job.

“The girl named Zahid Hussain, Sajid Hussain and Sheikh Siraz in the FIR. No arrest has been made. We will probe the allegation before making any arrest. The medical report is also awaited,” said an officer at Park Street police station.

The teenager said in her complaint, lodged with Park Street police station around 11pm on Saturday, that Sajid had approached her in the evening with a part-time job to clean an office on Abdul Ali Row.

“She agreed because it would help her earn some extra money,” said the officer, quoting the girl.

The police said Sajid led her to the office but it was empty when they went in.

“No one was there but Sajid called his friends, Zahid and Siraj, over the phone and they turned up shortly. When I asked them what I needed to do, they shut the main door and locked it from inside,” the girl said in her complaint.

She said the next two hours were the most horrific time of her life as the three men took turns to rape her for more than two hours.

“She said the assault ended when they allowed her to go around 9pm. Two hours later, she went to the police station with neighbours and lodged a complaint,” said an officer investigating the case.

The teenager underwent a medical test at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital on Sunday.

The police said they were waiting for the medical report to confirm the crime.

The officer at Park Street police station said they had visited the office.

“We are trying to find any person who had seen the girl with Sajid while they were walking to the office or entering the premises. We have not come across anyone, though. We spoke to people in the area but no one had seen or heard anything.”

The girl has told the police that she knew the three accused men.

“Sajid offered me a job and I accepted it because I knew him. I know his friends as well… they had spoken to me on several occasions,” she told the police.

The city’s party hub had grabbed headlines in 2012 when an alleged gang rape in a moving car on the night of February 5 rocked the nation.

A 37-year-old mother of two was allegedly gang-raped in the car.

Ruman Khan, Sumit Bajaj and Naser Khan, the trio charged with impersonating three other persons to befriend the victim before her alleged rape, are currently in Presidency jail.

The fourth accused, Kadir Khan, is still at large.
