Gadget store looted

Ranchi, June 21: Two youths today stole electronic equipment worth Rs 8 lakh from the new showroom of a Japanese brand that opened near Shukla Colony in Ranchi’s Doranda merely 15 days ago.

The theft came to light around 9am this morning when the employees came to open the store and found the shutter broken. On entering, they found the equipment missing.

Deputy superintendent of police (Hatia) Nisha Murmu said CCTV footage collected from the shop suggested that two youths committed the crime between 4am and 4.15am on Saturday. “The pictures were hazy and hence, the criminals have not been identified so far,” she added.

Superintendent of police (city) Anoop Birtharay said police came to know about the burglary around 10am and rushed to the spot.

Asked about the items stolen, Birtharay said: “As per details provided by the shop owner, 25 mobile phones, three laptops and about 30 cameras worth nearly Rs 8 lakh are missing. The shop opened doors 15 days ago.”

He added that the criminals mostly took away small gadgets while larger appliances like LCD televisions were left untouched.

A formal FIR was registered around 5.45pm.

When contacted, Doranda officer-in-charge S.K. Srivastava said he was busy at a meeting and would speak later.
