Blackbuck dead, one in custody

A blackbuck was killed on Wednesday, exposing lackadaisical approach of authorities towards safeguarding the animal in the district.

On Wednesday, the body parts of a blackbuck were found at Kajipur village. Eight have been named accused in the case and one has been taken into custody.

Buxar superintendent of police Baburam could not be contacted, however.

Dumraon sub-divisional police officer R.K. Gupta told The Telegraph: “We have handed over this case to the forest department.”

The acting station house officer of Simri police station, Rajkumar, said the stick used in the act has been found.

Manoj Tiwary, a villager, said: “Owing to indifference of officials, these species are on the verge of extinction.”
