Calcutta, June 17: Trinamul legislature chief whip Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, who heads 40 of the 51 INTTUC jute mill unions in the state, was “displeased” at not being called to the meeting labour minister Purnendu Bose held today with union representatives, sources said.
“Chattopadhyay found out about the meeting from union sources and called up the chief minister. He was displeased at being left out,” a Trinamul insider said.
According to the source, Mamata Banerjee then called up Bose and instructed him to invite Chattopadhyay. “But when Bose called him, he said he would not be able to make it today,” the source added.
Later in the day, it was decided that Chattopadhyay would preside over a meeting in the Assembly on Thursday in which MLAs and MPs representing areas where jute mills are located would participate along with the INTTUC representatives.
“I have been asked by the chief minister to conduct Thursday’s meeting in the Assembly,” Chattopadhyay said this evening.
Trinamul sources said problems related to jute mill workers would be discussed at the meeting.
