BJP push for arrest of rape accused

Dhubri, June 15: The Assam BJP Kisan Morcha today demanded the immediate arrest of three persons accused in the gang rape and murder of a housewife residing in a village under Golokganj police station of Dhubri district.

The three accused allegedly abducted the woman and gang-raped her on June 9. She received severe head injuries while attempting to flee from the clutches of trio and later died in a private nursing home in Cooch Behar town in West Bengal on June 10.

Talking to The Telegraph, Assam BJP Kisan Morcha president Ashwani Roy Sarkar, who hails from Golokganj in Dhubri district, strongly condemned this barbaric act committed by the trio and demanded their arrest and exemplary punishment.

It is a crime against humanity and no civil society can tolerate it. This sort of heinous act spoils social bindings and creates far-reaching impact in the mind of people, Sarkar added.

He said a team from the party met the officer-in-charge of Golokganj and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. The villagers also condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of the trio.

Officer-in-charge of Golokganj police station Bijit Dadhara said the three accused have been absconding since the incident took place. However, the police have activated their network to arrest them.

“We are constantly monitoring our networks and they will not be able to evade arrest for long time. It is a matter of time only and once the police gather information of their hideouts, they will swing into action,” Dadhara said.

This is the second incident of gang-rape in the last 15 days. On the night of May 30, a 16-year-old girl was gang-raped in Dhubri town.

Two accused allegedly involved in abduction and gang-rape were arrested by the police after a week.
