Dhubri, June 13: Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal today distributed nine ambulances to the Dhubri Srimanta Sankardev Sishu Udyan here from his MP area development fund.
At the meeting held on the occasion at Open Air Theatre, Ajmal claimed to have fulfilled the long-standing demands of the people living in Dhubri and Goalpara districts who face a lot of inconvenience while shifting critical patients. “In view of the poor medical and health infrastructure in Dhubri and Goalpara districts, there had been a persistent demand for ambulance services which has been fulfilled today,” Ajmal said.
He said he would extend financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the Dhubri Chest Hospital for overall infrastructure development and improvement of the treatment and medical facilities there.
He said he would raise issues like the setting up of Dhubri medical, agriculture and engineering colleges, construction of the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge and opening of the Dhubri river port and Rupshi airport with the central government and ministries concerned so that projects were implemented and materialised soon on the ground.
Dhubri joint-director of health services K.K. Choudhury told The Telegraph that ambulance services for critical patients would prove to be a great assistance in providing medical services particularly in the districts of Dhubri and Goalpara. Besides Dhubri deputy commissioner Kumud Chandra Kalita and senior district officials, all the seven AIUDF legislators of Dhubri and Goalpara were present at the distribution ceremony today. The meeting also condoled the death of singer Khagen Mahanta by observing a one-minute silence.
Six ambulances were handed over to K.K. Choudhury while three to the health officials of Goalpara district.
An official source said the 10 ambulances were purchased for Rs 10 lakh each from the second instalment of the MP area development fund of 2011-12, which was released in the 2013-14 financial year.
One ambulance was allotted to Hojai Assembly constituency while nine to Dhubri, Gauripur, Golokganj, Bilasipara (east), South Salmara and Mancachar Assembly constituencies of Dhubri district.
One ambulance each was allotted to Goalpara (east), Goalpara (west) and Jaleswar Assembly constituencies of Goalpara district.
