Guwahati, June 13: Goalpara Cricket Academy stormed into the final of the Dilip Sarmah Under-14 Inter-District Cricket Coaching Centre Championship, defeating Tinsukia Cricket Academy by 37 runs in the second semi-final at Nehru Stadium here today.
Electing to bat, the Goalpara boys put up a total of 112 runs before being all out in 39.3 overs. Despite an early blow, Gourav Thakuria and Sanjib Barman steered the game to safety. Barman went on to topscore for his side with 29 runs off 64 deliveries with three hits to the fence. Sambhav Jain chipped in with 22 runs off 47 balls with one boundary. Manthan Das, with a run-a-ball 12, which included two hits to the fence, was the only other batsman to reach the double-figure mark. Rohit Agarwal was the pick of the Tinsukia bowlers with five wickets in his kitty for 21 runs in his six overs while Anirban Chatterjee, Abhishek Bhuyan, Kunal Dhar and Dayal Sona picked up one wicket each.
Chasing a modest total, Tinsukia Cricket Academy batsmen failed to make an impact as the side could only manage 75 runs before being all out in 35.3 overs. Riyazuddin Ali with 16 runs off 68 balls and Kunal Dhar with 12 runs off 49 deliveries were the only batsmen to reach the double-figure mark. Randhir Prasad Das and Manjeet Deka picked up three wickets each while Jugal Kishor Rabha and Sambhav Jain scalped one wicket each.
Goalpara Cricket Academy will lock horns with Lakhimpur Cricket Academy in the final on Sunday.
