Nilamani emerge champion

Imphal, June 12: Nilamani English High School, Mayang, defeated CT Higher Secondary School by 5-2 goals during tiebreak in the final of the under-14 boys’ Imphal West District Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament played at Khuman Lampak sports complex.

This is the fourth time that Nilamani English School has qualified for the state-level competition, which is likely to be held in the first week of July to choose under-15 and under-17 teams for the national-level competition.

CT Higher Secondary School got the break in the 15th minute after Nilamani player M. Roger Singh conceded an own goal. Nilamani English School recovered with H. Naoba fetching the equaliser in the 24th minute to hold the game 1-1 till the end. Nilamani English converted four of their kicks with Zarmei Ragui, Semchungnung, N. Landanba, Ch. Commander finding the net. CT Higher Secondary could manage just one goal from Romesh Singh while other kicks were saved.

In the under-17 boys’ category final, Ch. Thamboumacha High School, Naoremthong, blanked Little Master English School by 2-0 goals to qualify for the state level competition.
