Siliguri, June 10: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation commissioner S.W. Bhutia today said an existing pump has been repaired and water is expected to be restored in nine wards of the town tomorrow.
More than 50,000 residents of nine wards in Siliguri are not getting water since May 29 as all three pumps at a pump house in Pareshnagar area of the town have become defunct.
“Repairing one of the existing pumps is complete and it has been reinstalled. We expect water supply to resume in these wards from tomorrow. The new pump, which has arrived from Ahmedabad, however, is yet to be installed. Representatives of the private company which has supplied the pump are here and it would take three days to install this new pump,” said Bhutia.
“Once the new pump becomes operational, the crisis will be completely over,” he added.
“We are very disappointed with the manner in which SMC and PHE officials are handling this issue,” said Sanjoy Biswakarma, a local resident.
