PHE get walkover, Town excel

Hailakandi, June 8: PHE Recreational Club were awarded walkover after players of Tarun Sangha failed to turn up for the match in the Ramanuj Gupta Super Division football league of Silchar District Sports Association at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar today.

In a match yesterday, Town Club inflicted a 4-1 drubbing on Police Athletic Club.

Town Club dominated the first half scoring as many as three goals. They looked unstoppable after Sunil Saikia gave his team the lead in the 13th minute. But it was Lalrelfela who stole the show with a hat-trick. Lalrelfela’s goals in the 16th, 41st and 74th minutes were the result of individual brilliance as the striker dribbled past many from the midfield to find the net.

Amal Sarma scored for Police AC in the 69th minute. Police’s Kennedy Nampui was shown the red card.

Chess: Cheniram Pegu of Assam was crowned champion in the seventh Mumbai Mayor Cup International Open Fide Rating Category B Chess Tournament. Cheniram scored 9.5 points from 10 rounds while another Assam player, Rahul Singh, came second with nine points.

Football camp: The 30-day non-residential second AMFA Grassroots Development Programme having 75 players concluded today at Khuman Lampak sports complex.
