Dhubri BJP seeks arrest of ‘rapists’

Dhubri, June 8: The BJP unit of Dhubri today demanded the immediate arrest of two persons accused in the rape of a minor.

Dhubri district BJP general secretary Prosenjit Dutta said an FIR was lodged by the maternal uncle of the 16-year-old girl at the Amco Bazar police outpost against two persons who allegedly raped his niece on the night of May 29.

“But a week elapsed since then and rapists are still absconding. Police could have arrested the accused on May 30 as they had enough time. But the duo have been absconding since then because of the negligence on the part of the police,” Dutta alleged.

Dutta also alleged that the incident took place on the night of May 29 just near the Amco Road police outpost but they did not take any action. Only after local people mounted pressure on the police was the FIR registered on the night of May 30.

The officer in-charge of Amco police outpost Saidul Rahman said the police have been making all effort to book the accused but as of now, they are clueless.

“We are working on some fresh inputs and hopefully the accused will be booked within a couple of days,” Rahman said.
