Tamluk, June 2: Trinamul leaders and workers in Nandigram have decided to write to Mamata Banerjee urging her to reinstate Subhendu Adhikari as president of the party’s youth wing.
Mamata had on Friday removed Adhikari as the Trinamul Youth Congress state president, the move being seen as a bid to clip the wings of the Tamluk MP.
Meghnad Pal, a former president of Trinamul’s block committee in Nandigram, said today: “It was the Nandigram movement that brought the Trinamul Congress to power and Subhendu Adhikari had led the movement. His removal has hurt the people here. We will send a letter to Mamata Banerjee on Thursday demanding his reinstatement.”
The decision to remove Adhikari has sparked a series of protests in East Midnapore. Yesterday, Adhikari’s loyalists burnt the effigy of Mukul Roy in Contai and today, around 1,000 Trinamul workers took out processions in several areas. Nearly 100 supporters of the Tamluk MP blocked NH6 at Kolaghat for half an hour.
