Guwahati, June 1: Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT and Kahilipara Higher Secondary School clinched thumping victories in their respective matches of the 10th Dhan Sena Sinha All-Assam Inter-School Prize-Money Cricket Tournament at Latasil playground here today.
Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT inflicted a 149-run defeat on Little Angels English High School to enter the quarter-finals.
Electing to bat, Kendriya Vidyalaya put up 188 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Kaushik Saikia scored 45 runs off 43 balls while Abhilash Das contributed 36 runs off 23 deliveries. Radhe Shaw picked up two wickets, giving away 23 runs in three overs, while Biki Sharma and Raj Kumar Shaw took a wicket each.
Chasing a stiff target, the Little Angels boys were all out for 39 runs in 10.5 overs. Sonu Bala scored 11 runs off 25 balls. Aman Chetri and Mrinaljyoti Haloi picked up three wickets each.
In the second match of the day, Kahilipara Higher Secondary School got the better of Milky Way Public School by 80 runs.
Put in to bat, the Kahilipara boys managed a decent total of 129 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated overs.
Debojit Das scored 25 runs off 20 balls while Ritam Paul chipped in with 21 off 13 deliveries.
Dipankar Shah picked up four wickets going for 21 runs in his allotted four overs while Raja Roy and Suresh Das bagged two wickets each.
Chasing a modest total, the Milky Way batsmen could only manage 49 runs before being all out in 9.1 overs.
Gopu Mondal scored a run-a-ball 18 runs. Papu Das returned with figures of four for 21 runs in three overs while Prashanta Dey and Akash Das scalped two wickets each.
Earlier yesterday, Kendriya Vidyalaya IOC got the better of Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Kalipur, by one wicket while in the other match, Pragjyotish English High School registered a two-wicket victory over Kendriya Vidyalaya, Maligaon. Despite the defeat, Kendriya Vidyalaya Maligaon qualified for the quarter-finals based on a better net run rate.
