NFR honours achievers

Guwahati, May 30: Northeast Frontier Railway today felicitated its sportspersons for their achievements in the team and individual events during the 2013-14 season at the Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association Indoor Stadium here today.

The NF Railway’s football team, the basketball team, the women’s table tennis team and the women’s badminton team were also felicitated.

The football team had annexed the 70th All-India Railway Football Championship in Patna and the Guwahati Super Division Football League, while the basketball team emerged champions in the 56th All-India Railway Basketball Championship at Kapurthala.

The women’s table tennis team emerged champions at the 61st All-India Railway Table Tennis Championship in Calcutta while the women’s badminton team had lifted the bronze medal in the 61st All-India Railway Badminton Championship in Patna. Body- builders A. Bobby Singh and Y. Sunita Devi were also feted for representing the country in international events.

The names of A. Bobby Singh and weightlifter Y. Renubala Chanu have been recommended for the Arjuna award, said the president of NFR Sports Association, Mukul Marwah.

Altogether 10 sportspersons were felicitated for their outstanding show in national championships while 12 were honoured for their performance in the inter-railway championships.

Among those present on the occasion were NF Railway general manager R.S. Virdi as the chief guest, along with the general manager constructions, R.K. Singh, as the guest of honour.
