Dhan Sena cricket

Guwahati, May 30: Fairyland High School and South Point School registered victories in their respective matches of the 10th Dhan Sena Sinha All-Assam Inter-school Prize-money Cricket Tournament at the Latasil ground here today.

In the first match of the day, Fairyland got the better of Noonmati Public School by six wickets. Put in to bat, Noonmati boys were bundled out for 55 runs in 19.3 overs. Sahil Ahmed with 13 runs off 38 balls was the lone batsmen to reach the double-figure mark. Bikash Langkynshi picked up three wickets going for 10 runs.

In reply, Fairyland batsmen got past the target losing four wickets in 11.4 overs. Mintu Ramchiari scored 24 runs off 38 balls. Sahil Ahmed picked up three wickets conceding six runs.

In the other match of the day, South Point School ensured their place in the quarter-finals after clinching victory against Advent Academy English School based on a better run aggregate after rain played spoilsport.

Advent boys put up a total of 106 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Santosh Bahadur Thakuri scored 16 runs off 37 balls. Dhruv Raaj Borah was the wrecker-in-chief with figures of five wickets for 15 runs. Chasing the total, South Point boys were cruising home with a total of 86 runs for the loss of one wicket in 11 overs until rain interrupted further proceedings. Saahil Jain remained unbeaten with a fine knock of 63 runs off 51 balls. K. Kam Raju took the lone wicket conceding 15 runs in two overs.

Kendriya Vidyalaya IOC will play Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Kalipur in the first match of the day tomorrow while Kendriya Vidyalaya Maligaon will face Pragjyotish English High School in the second match of the day.

Boat racing: The Assam Boat Racing and Rowing Association has named a 40-member contingent for the 17th Sub-Junior National and 18th Challenger Sprint National Rowing Championship in Calcutta from June 1 to 7.
