Two state ministers, one of whom had witnessed KKR’s 2012 victory in Chennai, will join Shah Rukh Khan at Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy stadium for the IPL7 final on Sunday.
Aroop Biswas and Firhad Hakim were invited to watch the match by SRK himself at Mamata Banerjee’s house after Wednesday’s qualifier. The chief minister readily gave the duo the go-ahead.
Youth affairs minister Biswas had been in the Chepauk stands two summers ago when the Knights trounced Chennai Super Kings to lift the IPL5 title.
“Last time (2012) I had to seek Mamatadi’s permission to visit Chennai for the final. This time Didi asked me (to be at the final). She wants us (he and Firhad) to ensure that our team wins the cup again,” an ecstatic Biswas told Metro on Friday.
It all happened on Wednesday night when SRK visited Mamata’s Kalighat house after his Knights sailed into the final at Eden. During his 20-minute stay at 30B Harish Chatterjee Street, Bengal’s brand ambassador had first invited the chief minister to watch the final with him at Chinnaswamy.
When a smiling Mamata expressed her inability to visit Bangalore, SRK requested that she send two of her Cabinet colleagues.
“Shah Rukh invited two of us in the chief minister’s presence. We were not sure what to do. But the chief minister immediately said we should go. It’s a huge responsibility for us,” said urban development minister Hakim, all smiles. “We would be right there in the KKR camp at Chinnaswamy.”
Biswas, who is praying that he proves lucky again for KKR, will be at Chinnaswamy wearing the same sky-blue kurta and faded denims that he wore while watching all the KKR ties at Eden this year.
Before leaving for Bangalore, he will offer puja at a Lokenath temple in New Alipore.
“I have very good intuition. KKR’s rise this year has been similar to that in 2012. Other teams like Chennai and Punjab have already held the top positions and it is now time for them to slide,” says Biswas.” “Whoever wins the second qualifier, we are going to lift the cup this year again.”
Hakim does not believe in lucky charms. “I will go there to enjoy the game and return with the team holding the IPL7 trophy,” he said. “I am growing more confident by the day that we will be the champion once again.”
A fire broke out in the gynaecology department of SSKM Hospital around noon on Friday. Two fire tenders managed to douse the flames. Nobody was injured. Fire officers suspect that an electrical short-circuit in an air-conditioner caused the fire.
