Miami: Miguel Layun struck twice for Mexico who began their World Cup preparations with a 3-0 win over Israel at the Azteca Stadium on Wednesday. In another match, Nigeria were held 2-2 by Scotland.

New kit

Madrid: Spain has been ordered to make a new white kit for the World Cup after Fifa decided the team’s normal red shirts didn’t offer enough contrast to the Netherlands’ jerseys for their opening game in Brazil.

Glazer no more

Miami: Malcolm Glazer, a reclusive selfmade billionaire and patriarch of the family that owns the National Football Leagues’ Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Manchester United soccer club, died on Wednesday, the teams said. He was 86.

Glazer, who as a teenager sold watch parts from a suitcase before building a wide-ranging business empire, bought United in 2005.
