Jailed for smut texts to ex

A 26-year-old jobless man was sent to jail on Thursday for sending lewd and threatening text messages to his former girlfriend.

Sanjay Bharati, a resident of Sector IV of Bokaro steel city, was arrested in the morning after the 21-year-old girl, who is now married to a youth from Hazaribagh, filed a complaint with Sector XII police.

Police sources said Sanjay and the young woman knew each other for the past few years. After completing his graduation, Sanjay fell into bad company. The girl, who was under pressure from her family to get married, asked him to mend his ways and start working, but in vain.

When the girl’s family members fixed her marriage in Hazaribagh, Sanjay threatened to embarrass her publicly. Even after she got married in April, he kept sending her sexually explicit messages and asked her to meet him alone. The girl refused to meet him and informed her parents of the problem.

Her parents, in their bid to put an end to the menace, spoke to Sanjay and told him to forget their daughter, take up a job and start a new life.

This, however, did not deter Sanjay from carrying on the message torment, forcing his former girlfriend to file a police complaint when she came to stay at her parents’ house a few days ago.

Police tracked Sanjay’s texts. On Thursday morning, they nabbed him while he was loitering near the girl’s residence. Later, he was produced before a Bokaro magistrate and sent to Chas jail.

Sector XII thana OC V.K. Singh said they had a record of the lewd and threat SMSes sent by Sanjay. “Despite being warned by her relatives, the youth continued to hassle the girl, leading us to arrest him,” he confirmed.
