Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hailed his bowlers after the CSK registered a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator, on Wednesday.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni: I think the bowlers did a real good job. It was a very good wicket to bat on. Ashish (Nehra) and Ishwar (Pandey) bowled really well in the first couple of overs… they moved the ball around a bit and didn’t allow them to get the boundaries. We executed our plans well.
Our plan to stop Corey Anderson paid off. We knew he would try and swing and I had kept Ashwin for him, and it paid off. That’s where experience counts. David Hussey has been a very good addition and he was given a free license. We knew that he can accelerate anytime, and with myself and Jadeja still to come, we could chase the target at 9-10 runs an over.
We had a great start to the chase as well. It’s a good sign that we didn’t panic even after losing a few quick wickets.
Rohit Sharma: We batted well till the 16th over but lost a few quick wickets that pegged us down. We knew that 170 was never going to be enough. I don’t want to take anything away from the guys because it’s because of their efforts we are here. The guys have shown plenty of character… it was just not our day.
Suresh Raina (MoM): God has been very kind to me [after being named captain of India for the tour of Bangladesh]. With the ball, we executed our plans really well. And then the batsmen… all of them did their job. I think they were 15–20 runs short.
Personally, I am very happy with my performance. I knew I had to bat till the last over. The wicket too was really good and the ball was coming on nicely. I knew I could hit Ojha over mid-wicket and Harbhajan over cover.
