Three arrested for land forgery

Jorhat, May 27: Police have unearthed a racket involved in forging land documents of the revenue department with the arrest of three persons here. One person was arrested today while two were arrested last week.

Police sources said Dinesh Bora, a resident of Meleng Doloi village, was arrested today while two others — Papu Das and Rajib Bora — hailing from Meleng and Dhekargora were arrest earlier.

Dinesh was arrested today after Jorhat (east) circle officer Samiran Bora lodged an FIR at Jorhat police station accusing Dinesh of forging his (Samiran’s) signature in a fake land certificate.

Sources said Dinesh today applied for jamanbandi (land revenue record) copy of a plot claiming to be its owner. The circle officer said Dinesh had submitted a land holding certificate along with the application.

Bora said while examining the land holding certificate, which was believed to be issued from his office (east revenue circle) it was found that his signature was forged and the printing style and paper quality was different from what is generally used by his office.

The officer said while looking into the land records of the office, it was found that the plot of land, which Dinesh claimed to be the owner, did not belong to him but was in the name of his uncle.

Samiran Bora said the arrest of three persons seems to be “tip of the iceberg”.
