Calcutta, May 27: Enforcement Directorate officials had to wait for over three hours to enter a Saradha office in Behala as they were kept waiting for the keys by officers of the now-dismantled Bengal police special investigation team.
The four-member ED team, which had arrived at the Saradha office around 12pm, did not eventually get all the keys and had to break the locks of some doors. According to the sources, the team had first gone to Bhabani Bhavan to collect the keys but were told to proceed to the Saradha office, where the keys would be sent after some time.
“We don’t know why the state police took so long to hand over the keys. Since we are probing the money-laundering aspect of the Saradha scam, we felt we should search the office,” an ED official said.
Asked about the delay, an SIT officer said: “We wanted to go through the records of documents we had taken from the Behala office. We asked our officers whether they wanted to be present when the ED officials entered the office. This process took some time.”
