12 hurt in clash

Goalpara, May 25: Twelve people were injured in a clash at Bagangaon village in Goalpara district this morning.

Sources said Goruchatka Gohaipahar village cut trees from a nearby forest under Rangjuli forest range turning it barren. The residents of Bagangaon then built a graveyard on the barren land.

Another group from Goruchatka Gohaipahar village were trying to occupy the forestland, which the Bagangaon villagers resisted and it resulted in a cold war between the two sides. Today, when the Bagangaon residents were cleaning the land, the other group from Goruchatka Gohaipahar attacked them.

“We are investigating the matter,” said Goalpara SP Nitul Gogoi.
