‘Need to do well and keep winning’

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni heaved a sigh of relief.

His bowlers finally contributed heavily to their comfortable eight-wicket victory over an out-of-sorts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), in Bangalore on Saturday.

“Bowling was an area of concern for us. We weren’t doing well, especially on tracks that are good for batting.

“But the bowlers really did well today to restrict them to 154. This is a ground which suits our bowling a bit more,” said Dhoni at the post-match presentation.

Excerpts

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MoM): The ankle is okay as of now. It will be properly addressed in the morning after the overnight sleep as to how it is. However, I was still running properly, although it became a bit difficult towards the end.

We are doing quite well. Bowling was an area of concern for us. We weren’t doing well, especially on tracks that are good for batting. But the bowlers really did well today to restrict them to 154.

This is a ground which suits our bowling a bit more. It’s a small ground. 150 155 was anyway achievable here. As we get to the lottery side of the tournament, we need to do well and keep winning.

Virat Kohli: I am not much happy even though I have had a good day with the bat. I have maintained throughout the tournament that there’s no point scoring runs if the team is not winning.

It was another disappointing game for us. We could have executed our plans better with the ball. 154 was a decent target on this wicket. It wasn’t a track where such a score was easily chaseable.

Of course the season didn’t go the way we had planned. We have a great bunch of players but for some reasons we couldn’t fire in unison.
