New Delhi: In what can be a setback for India’s preparations for the Commonwealth and Asian Games this year, a seven-member India team have not been granted visa to take part in the Chemistry Cup in Halle, Germany.
“We had been trying to get the visas for the team for the last five days but could not succeed,” Indian Olympic Association (IOA) joint secretary Rakesh Gupta told The Telegraph on Saturday.
“After our attempts to get the visas through the official agency that handles German visas failed, we requested both the Ministry of External Affairs and the Sports Ministry to intervene. They did try, but the visas were not granted. Now we are trying to send the team to China Open,” added Gupta.
The Indian boxers hardly got any international exposure ever since AIBA put India under suspension.
