I am the culprit: Watson

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) inflicted a 16-run defeat on Rajasthan Royals to ensure they would finish at the top of the table, going into the play-off stage of IPL VII. Almost each of their batsmen, led by top-scorer Shaun Marsh (40), came up with a decent contribution to take KXIP’s total to 179 for four.

Thereafter, spinner Akshar Patel took three scalps with Karanveer Singh and Rishi Dhawan taking two wickets apiece to restrict the Royals to 163 for eight.

“It’s nice to know that we are playing consistent cricket. That’s something we have been speaking about,” KXIP captain George Bailey said.

“It’s good that we have got some impetus going into the play-offs,” said Man of the Match Marsh.

Excerpts

George Bailey: It’s nice to know that we are playing consistent cricket. That’s something we have been speaking about. We had a good chat before the game, about the basics and what we need to do and I think we did that. We seem to have a lot of batsmen getting to 20s and 30s, but the really pleasing thing tonight was keeping wickets in hand and to keep building partnerships, which was important. Akshar Patel, we rarely mention him now, but he keeps doing what he does.

Shane Watson: We did not execute things right. It was a very good wicket. I’m a culprit for losing my wicket. Jimmy (Faulkner) and Hodgy did a great job to get us close. We have to pick ourselves and be at our best against Mumbai Indians. It will be a knockout game.

Shaun Marsh (MoM): It was nice to get a few runs and I enjoyed batting with Manan (Vohra) as well. The bowlers were fantastic. The pitch was pretty good, the odd one held up a bit for the spinners… Was sort of lucky that the ball got stuck (while taking Kevon Cooper’s catch). It's good that we have got some impetus going into the play-offs.
