Calcutta: Robin Uthappa might be the face of Kolkata Knight Riders’ batting, but one cannot discount the contributions of Shakib-al Hasan. The Bangladesh all-rounder has played crucial knocks of 46 not out and 60 against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively and has been in amazing form. He has also made an impact with the ball, taking nine wickets.
Shakib, obviously, is happy with his performance. “It feels good to contribute to the team. That’s my job and I am trying to do my best. So far, it is coming off nicely and hopefully I will continue playing like this,” Shakib told IPL’s official website.
Talking about Thursday’s innings, Shakib said: “It was important to have a good partnership in the middle after losing a couple of wickets quickly. We didn’t get off to a good start, so we needed a partnership in the middle overs and we did that.”
“We wanted to start well, but we didn’t. But we knew that if someone gets in, we have the ability to score big runs and that’s what we did. We weren’t looking at any particular numberů We just tried our best to get as many runs as we could. We have been playing very good cricket since we have come back to India and we have continued with those performances. We are on a roll.”
Speaking about the wicket, Shakib said: “It is a very good batting wicket. It is similar to wickets in Bangladesh. And I have enjoyed batting at the Eden.”
Shakib hit Yuzvendra Chahal for 24 runs in one over. Asked whether he had planned an assault on Chahal, he said: “It just comes along. You never plan those things.
