Brojendro, Whourie enter singles semis

Imphal, May 23: T. Brojendro Singh of Manipur moved into the menís singles semi-final of the third North East Open Cash Prize Tennis Tournament, 2014 at Officerís Club, Lamphelpat, today, defeating Azad Khan, also of Manipur, 6-2, 6-0.

K. Whourie of Nagaland also made it to the semi-final, defeating Ramengemawia of Mizoram 6-4, 6-3.

Defending champion Vilasier Khate of Nagaland defeated N. Premjit Singh of Manipur 6-2, 6-4, while Lanrinawma of Mizoram prevailed over statemate Zathangliana 6-2, 6-1 to move into the semi-final of the menís singles category.

In the menís doubles category, Manipurís T. Brojendro and Ribashkar will clash with Vilasier Khate and Keneisezlie of Nagaland in the final.

In the semi-final matches, Brojendro and Ribashkar outplayed Ramengmawma and his partner Lalrinawma of Mizoram 4-6, 6-3 (10-8), while Vilasier Khate and Keneisezlie beat Zathangliana and Lalhmachhuana 6-4, 6-0.

In the veteransí doubles category, Manipur players Y. Ibotombi and H. Ibotombi prevailed upon compatriots T. Pamei and T. Joy 6-2, 6-4.

N. Dilip and P. Pritam, also of Manipur, beat N. Ranjit and H. Iboyaima 6-2, 6-1 to enter the semi-final. Th. Tuleshor and his partner N. Kangjamba of Manipur also sailed into the semi-final, defeating N. Tomba and S. Ranjit 6-1, 6-0.

Challenge Cup: Football Veteran Welfare Club thrashed Tulihal Educational Association by 6-1 goals to sail into the quarter-final of the 16th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

In another match, Veteran Sports Association, Imphal, moved into the quarter-final, despite a goalless draw against All-Yairipok Masters Football Association.
