Chennai, May 19 (PTI): Jayalalithaa today sacked three ministers and six AIADMK district heads over defeat in the three Lok Sabha seats that went to rivals.
The party won 37 of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry. Kanyakumari Dharmapuri and Puducherry were the only ones left untouched by the AIADMK landslide.
The BJP won Kanyakumari and ally PMK Dharmapuri. Another NDA partner snatched the Puducherry seat from the Congress.
Today’s action was seen as a sign of Jayalalithaa’s anger and a message to all ministers and party functionaries to pull up their socks ahead of the 2016 state polls.
The three ministers were replaced with leaders dropped in earlier ministry shuffles.
Jayalalithaa also changed the portfolios of some ministers.
