North and Sikkim to host career fair

Siliguri, May 18: Students and job aspirants from north Bengal and Sikkim will be able to learn about a host of educational and career opportunities at the 11th Education & Career Fair 2014 hosted by Calcutta-based Sape Events & Media Pvt Ltd in association with The Telegraph YOU this week.

The fair will be held in Gangtok, Darjeeling and Siliguri.

“It will be a one-day fair in Gangtok and Darjeeling on May 20 and 22 (respectively). In Siliguri, we will host a two-day fair on May 24 and 25,” said Sanjay Thapa, the founder and MD of Sape, an event management company, here today.

In Siliguri, the fair would be held at City Garden on Sevoke Road from 10am to 8pm. In Gangtok, the fair venue is Chintan Bhavan and in Darjeeling, it is Gymkhana Club. The fair would be on from 10am to 5pm at both the places.

“In Gangtok and Darjeeling, there would be 50-odd stalls by prominent universities and institutions from different parts of India. In Siliguri, there would be 75 stalls,” Thapa said. He had introduced career fair in Siliguri in 2004.

One will have the opportunity to explore and evaluate courses ranging from academics, professional and vocational ones, like advertising, animation, biotechnology, computer training, engineering, fashion designing, film technology, finance, graphic designing, hospitality and travel, medicine, research, sales and mass communication, management, engineering, law and others at the fair.

“The fair will offer a wide selection of graduation, post graduation, vocational and part-time courses. Students can also avail themselves of scholarships and spot admissions. They can also get information about the money required for desired courses,” an organiser said.

In Siliguri, Sape representatives said, they were expecting a footfall of around 3,000 each day. “Similar figures are expected in Gangtok and Darjeeling. In the hills, counselling sessions would be held by experts. We are trying to arrange for some space in Siliguri. In case it is available, similar sessions would be held here as well,” Thapa said. In Siliguri, there would be a lucky draw for visitors where one can win Tabs, Ipods and other prizes.
