Hyderabad, May 13: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has put up an impressive performance in the rural polls in Telangana and the YSR Congress in Seemandhra, a day after suffering civic-election reverses.
According to trends till this evening, the TRS won 82 zilla parishad seats in Telangana and the Congress 45 out of the 443 seats up for grabs. In other rural bodies, the two won almost the same number of seats.
In yesterday’s civic poll results, the Congress won 25 of Telangana’s civic bodies but the TRS only 10.
Today, the TRS sniffed a bonanza in Friday’s Lok Sabha and Assembly poll results. “These are only semi-finals, our real strength will come in the finals,”' TRS leader E. Rajinder said.
In Seemandhra, the rural poll trends indicated Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress won 20 zilla parishad seats and the Telugu Desam 24 out of the total 653. In yesterday’s civic polls, the gap was wide, with the Desam bagging 72 urban bodies with partner BJP, and Jagan’s party only 20.
The Congress’s dismal show continued today in Seemandhra with the party failing to bag a single zilla parishad seat so far.
Counting in the rural polls, which were held last month but whose results were postponed because of the general election, has been slow as ballot papers were used.
