Sari-dhoti tender rejected

Ranchi, May 12: Chief minister Hemant Soren today cancelled a tender floated in January this year for purchasing saris and dhotis, which were to be distributed among people below poverty line (BPL) at a highly subsidised rate.

Under the Sona Sobran Dhoti-Sari Yojana announced last fiscal, over 35 lakh families of the state will get a sari, a dhoti and a lungi for Rs 10 each.

The tender was invited in January this year, before the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections come into effect.

ďThe chief minister has issued an order to cancel the tender. Also, he has asked to invite fresh proposals after proper scrutiny of tender documents by the state law and finance department. The fresh ad should also include provisions for purchase of lungi,Ē said a senior government official.

The chief minister took the decision at a time when a silent war was going on between expelled minister Simon Marandi and Hemantís political adviser Himashu Shekhar Choudhary over alleged irregularities in selection of tenders.
