Fugitive accused arrested

A driver who had fled the city after allegedly murdering his employer on April 17 was arrested from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

A city court on Sunday remanded him in police custody for two weeks.

Police claimed that Sheikh Kalu admitted to his crime during interrogation.

Kalu used to drive a vehicle owned by Mohammad Raja, 45, of Metiabruz.

The police said Kalu had pushed Raja off the Majerhat rail overbridge after an argument. The body was spotted on the tracks the next morning but could not be identified.

The body was kept in a morgue for 15 days until the last rites were performed.

Rajaís family, in the meantime, lodged a missing diary with Metiabruz police station.

His family members identified him from the clothes found on the body.

The police examined Rajaís call records and found Kalu to be the last person on the call list. Kaluís number was traced to Sultanpur. He had allegedly told the police after arrest what transpired between Raja and him on April 17 that led to the crime.
