Calcutta, May 10: Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is jointly developing six engine platforms with its South Korean arm SsangYong that will be used in models of both the marques.
“The R&D engineering divisions of SsangYong and M&M are working on this project at M&M’s research and development facility,” said Arun Malhotra, chief sales and customer care officer, automotive division, M&M.
Of these six engines, the company is planning to develop a small petrol engine for its upcoming compact SUV. According to reports, the compact SUV will have something similar to Ford’s 1-litre EcoBoost engine. The company is also due to launch three models and 15 variants by fiscal 2015, including two compact SUVs.
