Woman killed

Guwahati, May 8: The body of a 55-year-old woman was found this morning inside Amchang wildlife sanctuary.

Forest officials suspected that the woman, Fulchand Bibi, was trampled to death by the elephant from the forest. Originally hailing from Kharupetia in Darrang district, she used to stay alone in a hut at Yusuf Nagar near the sanctuary.

“We suspect that she was attacked by the elephant when she visited the sanctuary. The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death,” divisional forest officer, Guwahati wildlife division, Dibyadhar Gogoi, said.

The forest department lodged an FIR at Satgaon police station in this connection.
