Calcutta/Mumbai: Both Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc were fined by match referee Andy Pycroft for their on-field spat during Tuesday’s Mumbai Indians-Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL VII tie, at the Wankhede.
Pollard admitted to Level II offence (Article 2.2.7) of throwing his bat at or near a player and accepted the sanction of a fine of 75 per cent of his match fee. Starc admitted to Level II offence (Article 2.2.11) of conduct contrary to the spirit of the game and accepted the sanction of a fine of 50 per cent of his match fee.
RCB coach Daniel Vettori was pained to see the ugly on-field spat between Starc and Pollard. “I haven’t had a chance to talk to Mitchell or anyone else involved. It’s obviously something we don’t want to see on the cricket field,” Vettori commented.
Not just Pollard and Starc, but MI captain Rohit Sharma and his RCB counterpart Virat Kohli were both fined after their teams maintained a slow over rate.
