Hosts face defeat

- Pondicherry thrash Arunachal Pradesh by 9-0 goals

Golaghat/Dibrugarh, May 6: Hosts Assam had to bite the dust against Jharkhand 0-2 in a Group-D match of the 20th Senior National Women’s Football Championship at Golaghat District Sports Association ground today.

Jharkhand took the lead in the 20th minute through Dular Marandy.

Pushpa Kumari Toppo further enhanced the lead in the 25th minute.

In spite of having better ball possession in the second half of the game, the home team could not make a difference in the scoreline.

In another match of the group at the same ground, Pondicherry smashed Arunachal Pradesh 9-0.

Elsewhere at the Butolikhowa ground in Golaghat district, Tamil Nadu blanked Uttarakhand 5-0.

At Dibrugarh, Mizoram edged past Karnataka 2-1 in a group B match at Jalan outdoor stadium.

Midfielder B. Lalhriattiri of Mizoram converted a pass from Brtsy Lalhlimpuii and opened the account for her team in the 22nd minute.

Midfielder K. Lalruatfeli scored another goal in the 45th minute.

Amoolya Kamal fired in the only salvo for Karnataka through a free kick in the 78th minute.

In another Group-B match at the same ground, Haryana humiliated Gujarat 18-0. Kavita Devi of Haryana scored six goals for her team.

In yet another Group-B match at Chabua in Dibrugarh district, Odisha blanked Goa 3-0.

Subha Prava Rout opened the account for Odisha in the eighth minute through a penalty kick conversion.

Meneka Mallick scored the second goal for her team in the 32nd minute and Pyari Xaxa netted the third goal for her team in the 54th minute.
