Bolpur, May 5: Birbhum police on Monday recovered four crude bombs from the house of a sand trader, two weeks after a blast in a Trinamul worker’s home killed two persons allegedly hired to make the explosives.
The police raided the house of Khuda Nawaz Sheikh in Saugram after villagers informed them that they had heard sounds of explosion from his backyard. Nawaz’s political affiliation could not be immediately confirmed.
Asansol: Trinamul on Monday organised two public meetings with actor Mithun Chakraborty at the same venues in Asansol and Bankura where Narendra Modi spoke a day before, an attempt to overcome the “Modi effect” a couple of days before the polls. An initiative to outdo the BJP turnout worked in Bankura, but the crowd was thin in Asansol.
Huts on fire
Chinsurah: Seven huts belonging to CPM supporters were set on fire by suspected Trinamul workers in a Hooghly village late on Monday evening. The ruling party denied the allegation.
Behrampore: Seven BSF jawans deployed on election duty were injured on Monday after the pick-up van they were travelling in overturned on a Murshidabad road.
