Calcutta: Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the owner and CEO of Atletico Madrid, along with top officials of the Spanish club, will officially launch the Calcutta franchise of the Indian Super League (ISL), on Wednesday, confirmed a media release.
Peter Kenyon — advisor to Atletico, Emilio Gutierrez — director of marketing and Carlos Aguilera Martin — director of grassroots & head of Atletico Academy, will be accompanying Marin.
Along with Atletico, who are in the business end of a fantastic season with opportunities to win the La Liga and the Champions League titles, the city franchise is co-owned by Sourav Ganguly, Sanjiv Goenka, Harshavardhan Neotia and Utsav Parekh.
As reported by The Telegraph in Saturday’s edition, the Spanish delegation, who will arrive on Tuesday, will have discussions with the Indian quartet of co-owners on a range of issues, including the name of the franchise. Among other options, ‘Atletico de Kolkata’ is the front-runner.
The Spanish delegation’s itinerary also includes meetings with some of the stalwarts, like PK Banerjee, Chuni Goswami and Syed Nayeemuddin.
